Editorial policy
How we research, review, update and correct what we publish.
Sources
We base technical content on manufacturers’ published installation guidance, engineering and industry references, and building-code sources, and we list the sources a guide relies on at the bottom of that guide. Cost information is attributed and dated. We don’t publish national cost “averages” we can’t source.
Technical review
Retaining walls are structures, and getting them wrong can damage property or hurt people. Guides covering wall failure, repair, drainage, reinforcement or engineering are reviewed by a qualified professional before we mark them as reviewed. Each guide shows its review status at the top. Until a guide has been reviewed, it says so.
We don’t publish:
- Universal “safe height” rules. Requirements depend on soil, loads and local codes.
- Do-it-yourself instructions for structural repairs.
- Diagnoses of specific walls from photos or descriptions.
Updates
Every guide shows when it was last updated. We review cost content when our pricing inputs change and technical content when the sources it relies on change.
Corrections
If you find an error, tell us. We fix factual errors promptly and note significant corrections on the page.
Commercial independence
Contractors may pay us for homeowner requests or sponsored placement. They can’t pay to change our guides, how their capabilities are described, or where they appear outside clearly labelled sponsored placements. Links to sponsored contractors are marked as such.
