How we review contractors
What we check before we list a contractor, how we mark each service, and what we don’t check.
Who gets listed
We start from public business listings for each area, then check each company’s own website and business profile. A contractor is listed only if retaining-wall work is an advertised service, not a passing mention, and the business appears to be operating. Paying us isn’t a requirement and doesn’t affect whether a contractor is listed.
How we mark services
We check five retaining-wall services separately:
| Service | What it means |
|---|---|
| New walls | Designs and builds new retaining walls |
| Repair | Repairs existing retaining walls, not just other masonry or foundations |
| Replacement | Removes and rebuilds existing walls |
| Maintenance | Ongoing upkeep such as resetting caps or clearing drainage |
| Drainage fixes | Adds or repairs drainage behind retaining walls |
Each service is shown in one of three ways:
- Advertised on their website. The contractor advertises this service on its own website or business profile. We link to where we saw it and the date we checked.
- Contractor-reported. The contractor told us they offer this service. We haven’t seen it advertised yet.
- Not confirmed. We haven’t found evidence either way. That doesn’t mean they don’t offer it, so ask them.
These labels show where the information came from. They are not a certification, licence check, inspection or rating of anyone’s work.
Offering one service doesn’t mean a contractor offers another. A company that builds new walls isn’t marked for repair unless we find evidence of repair work specifically.
Service areas
A contractor appears in a city if they’re based there or list it in their service area. We don’t assume a company serves everywhere near its office.
What we don’t check
- Licences and insurance. Rules vary by state and locality. Ask for proof and check with the issuing body.
- Quality of work or reviews. We don’t rate contractors.
- Prices. We don’t set or guarantee contractors’ prices.
- Engineering competence. If a contractor says they build engineered walls, we report that claim. We don’t certify it.
Keeping listings current
We re-check listings regularly, and each profile shows when it was last reviewed. If you’re a contractor and something about your listing is wrong, tell us.
Sponsored listings
Sponsored placements are labelled wherever they appear. They’re held to the same listing standard, and payment doesn’t change how services are marked.
